Media Building Berlin Thesis
The Media Building is a pivotal component of a comprehensive system of buildings designed to optimize and organise the unused space in the Marx-Engels-Forum, as an integral part of the Alexanderplatz area. The implementation of a densely packed master plan, featuring a diverse range of mixed-use buildings, has the potential to breathe new life into the area by generating a multitude of activities that operate seamlessly throughout the day, creating a vibrant and secure environment.
The fundamental concept behind the Media Building is to provide a cutting-edge platform that fosters transparency, democratisation, formal and informal ways of working, and public interaction. This structure was designed to meet the needs of modern media by creating a space that encourages communication and collaboration among various stakeholders.
The building’s southern orientation ensures that it benefits from direct sunlight throughout the entire day. Moreover, its proximity to the Spree River facilitates unplanned and spontaneous connections that enhance its appeal.
The heart of the Media Building is a grand open space that is enveloped by cascading floors. This innovative design encourages transparency and enables direct contact across multiple levels and sections of the building. The resulting effect is a dynamic and interconnected space that fosters communication, creativity, and collaboration.
