Media Building Berlin Thesis

The Media Building forms a key element within a larger architectural system proposed to revitalise and re-organise the underutilised expanse of the Marx-Engels-Forum, positioned at the threshold of Alexanderplatz. The vision introduces a compact, mixed-use masterplan, capable of reactivating the area with a dense network of programmes that operate continuously throughout the day, generating an urban environment that is vibrant, safe, and socially engaging.

At its core, the Media Building is conceived as a contemporary platform for openness, democratic exchange, and new hybrid modes of working. It aims to accommodate the evolving needs of modern media by creating an architecture that supports both formal and informal collaboration, interaction, and public engagement.

The southern orientation ensures ample daylight throughout the day, while the building’s proximity to the River Spree strengthens its potential for spontaneous encounters and unplanned connections, further enhancing its spatial and social qualities.

The heart of the building is defined by a large open void, around which the interior terraces cascade upwards. This spatial configuration promotes transparency and enables visual and physical connections across multiple levels. The result is a dynamic interior landscape that encourages communication, creativity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
